Cannabis

Noun

a tall plant with a stiff upright stem, divided serrated leaves, and glandular hairs. It is used to produce hemp fiber and as a psychotropic drug.

Cannabis is typically used to categorize one subspecies that has the street name  marijuana or weed. In fact, cannabis is a species of plant that includes several subspecies. Two of these subspecies are hemp, commonly referred to as industrial hemp and Marijuana, which is a plant grown for its higher concentration of a cannabinoid know as THC. This cannabinoid is one of over 85 found within the cannabis plant and is responsible for it’s psychoactive component. The cannabis
plant contains over 450 compounds that include cannabinoids and terpenes. Terpenes are what give each distinct strain its particular smell and taste. These compounds are produced in the little crystals that coat the flower of a feminized plant called Trichomes.

Indica

Unlike the sativa plant, the indica plant is short and stocky. Its compact and dense with deeply serrated leaves and branches bunched together with overlapping leaves. Its flowers are known for leaving people couched locked due to its physical and sedative effects. This is ideal for relaxing and taking the edge off. Best used during times of low level activities such as watching a movie, napping, relaxing next to the fire or before bed. Indicas typically contain higher levels of CBD and lower levels of THC.

Sativa

The sativa plant is a taller and lankier plant usually characterised by its narrow serrated leaves, and spacious branches. Sativa strains generally have higher levels of THC and low levels of CBD. Its effects are on the mind and emotions making it beneficial for the psychological aspects of illnesses, generally giving people a euphoric and well-being effect. Sativas are stimulating in nature and are best used during the day and for activities such as hikes, concerts, and outings. It is not recommended for those who suffer from Post traumatic stress disorder (ptsd) or anxiety like ailments due to its stimulating nature.

Cannabis is consumed in many forms

Smoking, the cannabis plant can be smoked in different forms so of which are:

Flower

Flower, typically consumed by means of smoking or vaporizing using rolling papers, wraps, pipes, or vaporizers. This is  the dried and cured flower of the female cannabis plant. This part of the plant contains the highest concentration of all the compounds it contains.

When consumed through the means of smoking or vaporizing the onset of the affects are

quicker when compared to an edible or sublingual.

Kief

Kief is a term used to describe the collection of the tips of the trichomes that
fall off when the flower is handled and ground. This collection is packed with
terpenes and cannabinoids, which makes kief very potent. It is usually
consumed through the same methods as flower and used to enhance the
desired effects.

Kief is also the raw material to produce hashish,

wax and other concentrates.

Hashish

Hashish or hash, is cannabis resin that is rich in the marijuana plant's psychoactive cannabinoid THC. The trichomes are compressed to make hash.Hash is typically smoked using a pipe, bong and at times added to a joint or blunt.

Edibles

For those that prefer not to smoke or are need a stronger effect to alleviate certain ailments may choose edibles as a form of ingestion. Edibles are typically made with oils, hash, or shatter and are infused foods such as brownies, cookies, beverages, and many others. This form of consumption may take 45 minutes to 2 hours before the effects are felt, but once felt the effects last anywhere between 4-8 hours. Edibles can also be infused with non-psychoactive oils such as CBD oil.

Vaporizing is another form of consumption that can be used to smoke not only the flower and its kief, but cannabis oil as well. It is the purest form of inhaling cannabis and easiest on the lungs.

Cannabis oil is extracted from the cannabis plant and contains the plants cannabinoids and terpenes. It is usually consumed through electronic vaporizers.

Concentrates such as, live resin, which is made by applying heat and compressing the flower between wax paper until the oils ooze out of the flower, Shatter, which is made mixing the flower with different elements to extract the oils and trichomes from the flower. Both of these form are highly concentrated and extremely potent typically reserved for seasoned smokers or patients looking for stronger effects.

Other forms of consumption include transdermal, which are great for immediate
relief of muscular pain and are absorbed through the skin and administered through
creams, patches, lotions and balms, sublingual, administered through tinctures and
oral strips are good for those who don’t enjoy smoking but still seek the therapeutic
and medical effects of the plant, and suppositories, typically used by women to
alleviate the effects of PMS and by detrimentally ill patients who cannot consume it

any other way.
